TV series challenges our perceptions of how we relate to dogs

When you talk about all the things you do for fur baby to other people (usually those who don’t have a dog), do you get some strange looks? We like to dress our dogs up, pamper them, include them in every aspect of our lives – we consider our dogs to be part of the family. And it’s no surprise that people like us are garnering attention from curious onlookers who want an inside look at our lives. And that’s just what they are hoping to see in the upcoming dogumentary “For The Love of Dog.”

Part of the “Obsessions” series, the world broadcast premiere of “For The Love Of Dog”, which airs on GLOBAL TV on October 19, 8PM ET, will take a look beyond the “Crazy Dog People” stereotype. This program interviews just a few passionate and colorful owners and their dogs. These are people from all walks of life who throw lavish dog weddings, attend “doga classes” and “paw-jama” parties, dance with their dogs in theatrical extravaganzas and hire psychics to re-connect with dogs that have passed on.

It’s easy to roll your eyes when you hear about the lengths that people will go for their dogs. What this program hopes to accomplish is to give viewers an understanding about how important a role dogs play in these owners’ lives – not to mention the growing number of people who consider their dog’s to be a huge part of their life. Yes, there are some outrageous moments, but keep your tissues handy for a few heartbreaking stories as well.

“For The Love of Dog” airs Saturday, October 19 at 8PM ET. If you don’t have access to GLOBAL TV (it’s a Canadian channel), you can watch it online – expect to see it online a few days after it broadcasts on the GLOBAL website. If you catch the show, please let us know what you thought of it. Does it go too far or does it go far enough? Does it paint an unfair portrait of pet parents? Please leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
