Lazy London Pet Parents In For A Crappy Surprise

You’d better make sure you’re picking up after your dog if you live in this London neighborhood!

We all know how gross it is when people don’t clean up after their dogs. Not just gross, but it also makes the rest of us responsible pet parents look bad! If you have a pooch, the ol’ poop and scoop just comes with the territory. If you’re not prepared to pick up the dookie and dispose of it, don’t get a dog.

In the London, England neighborhood of Camden, they’ve come up with a pretty “shocking” way to highlight the problem — by spray painting the leftover mess a shockingly bright pink!

And it’s not just park maintenance staff getting in on the action; officials are also offering cans of pink spray paint to area residents for use on the unwelcome dog droppings. The hope here is that highlighting the poop piles will embarrass lazy dog owners enough to pick up after their pooches.

This isn’t the first time a group of city officials have taken unique measures to combat the poop problem. In Spain, one town went so far as to hunt down the stinky offenders and (literally) mail their dog’s poop back to them.

The town of Brunete actually had volunteers patrolling the streets, looking to catch careless down owners in the act. The volunteers engaged the pet parents in conversation about their pooch and if they lived in the neighborhood. This info was then used to track down the owners’ addresses using the town’s registered pet database and bam! Offenders were in for a super smelly special delivery.

Overall, we think this is a great idea. While pink spray paint won’t help in directly identifying the crappy culprits who don’t clean up after their canines, we hope the embarrassment of seeing their doggie’s doo-doo highlighted for all the ‘hood to see will encourage them to do their duty (or shall we say… doodie?) as pet parents and pick up the poop!

Our only suggestion? Make sure the paint is also glow in the dark — not only will the icky offenders be embarrassed 24 hours a day, but it’ll also plant a big “Do Not Step Here!” sign right in the middle of the poopy pile.
