Tick and flea prevention in an easy-to-use collar

The key to controlling and preventing tick and flea problems is to get in front of the problem. And that’s what PetGuide is doing all this month. Now, we’re going to look at a new prevention method – the Seresto collar that kills and repels those pests for eight months.

Some pet parents feel more comfortable using collars on their dogs, especially when it comes to tick and flea control. Perhaps they forget to give the monthly treatments or only apply them when ticks and fleas are at its worst. And that’s where Seresto comes in. Made by Bayer HealthCare, this easy-to-use tick and flea collar delivers all the active ingredients that get rid of those annoying and potentially dangerous pests. It’s a long-lasting treatment, not to mention an economical one as well.

Here’s how Seresto works: It features sustained release technology that allows for a continuous release of imidacloprid and flumethrin in low concentrations. By releasing small amounts of the active ingredients from the collar to the dog’s hair and skin, the tick and flea control solution is distributed over the hair and skin surface. In just 24 hours, Seresto kills fleas and it kills ticks within 48 hours after initial application. And if those nasty pests try to regroup and have another go at your dog, Seresto has something in store for them – reinfesting fleas are killed within two hours and reinfesting ticks are killed as quickly as six hours.

Another great feature of the Seresto collar is its ratchet-release system. This means that it has a pre-determined breaking point in the event of your dog being caught or trapped on something. Your dog’s own strength is enough to allow for a quick release. Collars also come with three optional reflectors for night visibility.

Seresto comes in three different sizes – one for cats, one for small dogs up to 18 pounds and one for large dogs over 18 pounds. You can learn more about Seresto at Bayer HeathCare’s website.
