We’d like to introduce you to Alanna, our Adoptable Dog of the Week from Adoptapet.com. Alanna is a young female Boxer mix from Elyria, OH. She is already spayed, housetrained, and up to date with shots.

Alanna’s Story:

Alanna was pregnant when she arrived at Friendship from another rescue. She had her puppies while in foster care and was a very good mother. At the beginning of December Alanna was selected to be a Prison Dog and is currently in training at the Grafton Correctional Institute.

This is an explanation of the Prison Training Program the dogs go through. Each dog in the program receives approximately six hours of training each day that consists of basic command drills such as sit, stay, recall, socialization with other dogs, exercise walking the compound and play time with primary and secondary trainers that work in shifts over a 24-hour period. The trainers are selected using a strict criteria sheet based on their conduct and court record. They follow the Good Canine Citizenship Course. Each dog has to pass a series of training tests conducted by Don Hitchens, Friendship APLs Dog Trainer, in order to graduate from the program. The average time a dog spends in the training program is twelve weeks.
