National Pet Memorial Day Is Sunday, September 8

We wish we could celebrate dogs that have made their way to the Rainbow Bridge ever day. And now, these beloved pets have their own day of remembrance. Established by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories (IAPC), National Pet Memorial Day is a day for pet parents to celebrate the lives of pets that have passed on. Falling on the second Sunday in September every year, the day is an opportunity to help bring closure and remembrance.

We want to remember all of those wonderful pets that have passed on Sunday, September 8, 2013. Paw Pods, a company that makes pet burial pods, offers the following ways you can observe National Pet Memorial Day:

• Take time to reflect, and share favorite memories you shared with your pet.

• If you buried your pet, visit the site and think about happy times together.

• Consider a donation in your lost pet’s honor to an animal welfare, shelter or service group.

• Find a unique way to memorialize your pet with a peaceful spot by planting a small flower garden or tree.

“Coping with the loss of a pet can feel, at times, impossible,” said Ben Riggan, managing partner of Paw Pods. “A day like National Pet Memorial Day is a positive reminder to all of us that taking some time to remember a lost pet is therapeutic and healthy.”

If your pet has made his way to the Rainbow Bridge, what did you do to memorialize your special bond? Do you have any other ideas that would help other grieving pet parent honor their beloved pet? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below. And please share memories of your treasured companions with our community.
