Thanks to Twitter, Troy is Getting a Police Cat

Step aside, K-9s: felines are ready to join the law enforcement, and the future officer Whiskers is probably not afraid to get his claws out.

If you can ignore certain rant-loving presences on the platform, Twitter can be a place where the magic happens- and the Troy Police Department’s story confirms it. The law enforcement agency of the Michigan city took to the popular social media platform to gain support for their new hire: a cat.

The Troy Police Department, which is known amongst the locals for their humorous presence on social media, revealed they plan on getting a police cat, but only if they get 10,000 followers. Needless to say, their Twitter following more than doubled in the following days, with people rallying to help them meet their goal of adopting a crime-fighting kitty.

The law enforcement agency plans to do good on its promise and adopt a homeless cat from the local shelter. They hope their action will not only help their image (because, let’s face it, cats make everyone seem so much cooler) but inspire others to adopt a shelter cat of their own.

The police kitty is to live with one of the officers and come to the police station occasionally, to check if everything is up to standards and bless the human colleagues with his adorable presence. You see, unlike police dogs, the kitty’s role in the department would be purely to supervise and look great. It doesn’t surprise me that a cat wouldn’t want to get their paws dirty, after all!

Some might argue that being a cat burglar could have been a better career choice for the rescue feline, but I think it’s pawesome that officers in the Troy Police Department are giving a homeless kitty a chance. If more employees in the law enforcement were four-legged and furry, I’m convinced crime rates would drop instantly!
