Meet Shelby, our Adoptable Dog of the Week. Shelby is an adult female Chihuahua and Pug mix from Raleigh, NC. She is already spayed, housetrained, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.

Shelby’s Story:

We are pleased to introduce Shelby. Although she is a shy young lady, she is making great strides in building her confidence. You see, Shelby did not come from the greatest of situations. When she arrived she lacked human socialization and was fearful of people. But she has grown so much in just a short period of time! At first Shelby preferred to spend all of her time in her crate, even with the door open, and her tail never moved from between her legs. Now Shelby happily spends all of her time right along with her foster siblings and family, whether that’s outside in the yard, relaxing on the couch, napping on the dog bed, or snoozing in the big person bed. And now you can’t get that tail to stop wagging, especially after coming home. She almost does a little dance; she’s so excited to see you. Shelby truly has a tail that wagged the dog – it’s so cute! Shelby is still hand-shy about being picked up, but she enjoys a good lap, snuggles and kisses. She has the softest ears and fur. Shelby is fully house trained and crate trained, and loves getting treats and her daily walks. She does great on the leash and will stay by your side with the occasional sniffing here and there. Shelby is learning more and more every day that life is fun and people can be trusted. She’s also learning how to play with toys and other dogs. What a joy to see her throw a toy up and then go run after it, or to give a dog chew a good workout! What a transformation! Shelby would be happiest in a home with at least one other dog. She loves the company of dogs and looks to them for guidance and support. She is great around cats and birds, and is especially good with children. Do you have room in your heart and home for a totally adorable little lady? Shelby will fill up both with cuteness and love!
