I love bacon. And you know who else loves bacon? Oscar! And chances are, your dog is a big fan, too. Our Barking Bacon and Apple Dog Treat Recipe not only gave me the chance to add some yummy bacon to the mix, but also pull out my food processor. I don’t use it as often as I should, so it was a great excuse to pull it down from its place on the shelf and take it for a whirl!

Barking Bacon and Apple Dog Treat Recipe

Makes about 40 cookies

Ingredients:

1/3 cup rolled oats

2/3 cup oat flour

1/3 cup wheat bran

¼ cup ground pumpkin seeds

2/3 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup (put aside)

1 tbsp. ground flax seeds

2 cups carrots, roughly chopped

1 cup unsweeted apple sauce

½ cup natural peanut butter

2 beef bouillon cubes

1 Tbs honey

1 egg

4 pieces of cooked bacon, crumbled

Directions:

This is the first time I’ve used the food processor to mix wet and dry ingredients together. Even though it was sticky and a bit tricky to get into the bowl, I found that the blending process helped the ingredients combine evenly and bake perfectly. I’ll be using my food processor to blend a lot more often now!
