During the holiday season, it’s not unusual to see Nativity scenes. But in one New York neighborhood, passers-by came across a most uniqueCativity setup!

Brooke Goldman is a New York-based photographer was walking through her Astoria, Queens, neighborhood after walking her boyfriend to their local train station, and was exhausted.

But when she passed by one building, she couldn’t help but laugh at the sight she saw. She noticed a small nativity scene had been set up in front of the building, not unusual for the time of year.

What was unusual, however, was the very large and grumpy cat that was taking the place where traditionally Baby Jesus was on display. Goldman says that she laughed a good bit, as the cat in the basket was rotund and very grumpy looking–more like the Grinch who was stealing Christmas rather than the baby born to save the world. Still, he gave hearts some warm fuzzies as his, “What are you looking at?” vibe made many giggle.

Goldman posted on a CatSpotting Facebook group and it went viral pretty quickly. She said she thinks it’s wild that this random incident in her neighborhood is now being shared all over and even quickly becoming a hilarious meme. Goldman works currently for a still life and beauty photo agency but says that photos of animals are special to her. She uses Facebook for looking at animal pictures and she thinks that this funny situation and pictorial is a sign that she should be doing more animal pictures!
