A very lucky kitty has turned in one of its nine lives after being frozen, rescued and brought back to life and warmth thanks to the care of an animal hospital in Montana.

Freezing cold temperatures are not new to the residents of Kalispell, Montana. But for some of the furriest residents, the recent polar vortex brought frigid temperatures, and one outdoor cat found herself frozen in the snow near her owner’s home.

Dr. Jevon Clark is a veterinarian with The Animal Clinic of Kalispell, which is where the cat, Fluffy, was brought. Dr. Clark said that when she got there, she was unresponsive and with a temperature that was so low, the clinic’s thermometers couldn’t even read it. Cats average about 99.5-102.5 degrees Fahrenheit, and Fluffy’s was below 90 degrees.

Dr. Clark said that she was packed in so much ice and snow when she came in you, couldn’t tell she was even living except when you listened to her breathe and looked closely. She was literally frozen.

They used warm water and blow dryers and towels to slowly warm Fluffy up and get her body temperature back to readable. Dr. Clark said that for the first half-hour of their attempts, she didn’t respond, but then they saw a spark of life and eventually heard Fluffy growl. He says that’s when he knew she’d survive, though she’s validly a bit crabby.

Dr. Clark said that she’s always lived outdoors, so he believes that something traumatic like a fall or an injury happened and caused her to curl up in the position she was frozen in. He believes she wasn’t able to get into any of her familiar hiding spots that she’d normally go to, but says she is a survivor and calls her amazing.

Amazing indeed. Let’s hope the remaining eight of Fluffy’s lives are nice, long and WARM!
