If you’ve ever had one, you’ll know there’s nothing quite like the love of a dog. There’s a reason we call them our best friend: they’re loyal and faithful to us to the very end of their (or our) days.

And that’s just what Toronto-based photographer Pete Thorne is hoping to capture with his latest photo series, “Old Faithful”, where he snaps portraits of dogs that are “really, really old.”

Thorne receives numerous requests a day from pet parents who would like their pooches to be photographed for the series. Many of the dogs are rescues who have triumphed over adversity and found loving forever homes despite getting off to a rough start in life.

Our hearts are definitely full here at the PetGuide offices as we look through these beautiful portraits of so many loving and steadfast canine companions.

If you’re in the Toronto area and have a loving pooch in their golden years who you’d like to have photographed, you can get in touch with Thorne.

Here are just a few of the wonderful old doggies that have participated in the series so far:

Hazel

“Meet Hazel. She was named after Hazel McCallion, the Mayor of Mississauga. This tough old gal had both her eyes removed due to pain and no tear production, and has 5 microchips from being re-chipped every time she was sold to a new puppy mill. Luckily she was rescued and adopted by Blanche Axton.”
