Meowijuana Takes Catnip Connoisseurs to a New High

We know cats occasionally like to partake in a little catnip. We love the take that a new company, called Meowijuana, puts on their mellow catnip products.

Do you know a cat who has the ‘need for the weed’ – the weed, in this case, being catnip? Meowijuana, a company that sells 100 percent organic catnip, has just launched a new product line that takes advantage of the ‘high’ many cats seem to get from catnip with a whimsical (and hilarious) marketing campaign.

Meowijuana’s catnip is grown in California and Washington state, but able to be shipped internationally and domestically. The company’s trademarked tagline – “For cats who need the weed” – is hilarious… but only a play on words. While there is no actual marijuana in the catnip, and it is safe (and legal) for cats (and even people!) to consume, the company is copying the way marijuana dispensaries in Colorado and other states where it is legal to sell marijuana.

One offering is the Purple Passion Jar, which is a clear, re-sealable jar you can get your fix in. True catnip connoisseurs will find the Grand Daddy Purr Cigar Box a most tempting selection–100 percent organic catnip buds that were harvested during peak season in a humidity-regulated cigar box. For the real “Meowijuana” effect, the company offers its feline customers a Medical Meowijuana ID card, complete with the cat’s picture, name, sex and birthday.

Catnip comes from the mint family, and contains nepetalactone. In some cats, this can trigger a sense of euphoria, similar to a ‘high.’ Not all cats react this way; the ability to react is actually an inherited trait that 50 to 75 percent of cats have, and the way that catnip is consumed makes a difference in how cats will react. Typically, when catnip is sniffed, cats are stimulated whereas when they eat it, they seem sedated. Either way, when your cat ‘partakes,’ there’s likely to be a reaction!

CEO Chris Glissman says that while his team has a great time humorously marketing their product, they offer high-quality, pet-safe, organic catnip on the market, and cats love it. That customers enjoy the shopping experience makes it even more fun, and great for holiday gift giving!

So, if you’re looking to get the cat in your life the best grass to mow (see what we did there?) check out Meowijuana. They have other fun stuff your kitty is sure to love – but you’ll have to go to the corner store to get your Twinkies and Doritos!
