Cats are lovable pets! If you want a friend for life, check out our list of the top 10 friendliest cat breeds.

Anyone who has ever shared their home with a cat knows that these little felines are interesting creatures that can bring loads of fun and love into your life. And each kitty has their own preferences, even when it comes to how many people they like being around or whether they have a favorite person that they always want to spend time with.

You can find friendly, outgoing, and super sweet cats across all of the feline breeds, as well as mixed breeds. But there are certain cat breeds that are known for their friendliness and lack of shyness. If you are planning on bringing a cat into your family, and you want to help boost the odds that you’ll find one that’s extroverted and willing to become friends with just about everyone, there are some breeds that are worth considering.

A couple notes before we dive into our list of friendly feline breeds: first, keep in mind that even if a particular breed is known for its outgoing demeanor, every kitty within that breed will have their own likes, dislikes, and overall way of being. So, you certainly might come across a cat that’s more shy than social, despite the breed. Also, there are a lot of cats of all ages waiting for their forever home in shelters and rescues, and you can find purebred cats that are up for adoption, so it’s a great idea to consider taking that route even when searching for a specific feline breed.

Do you want to add a feline companion to your household? While every cat is an individual with a unique personality, the breeds below (in no particular order) are generally known for being friendly, social, and affectionate.

The charming and loving Burmese is known for its friendly disposition, and these cats tend to be totally comfortable with people cuddling them, hugging them, and kissing them. Also, don’t be surprised if this cat follows you around seeking attention. And if you’re in search of a cat that will get along with people and other pets, and will enjoy spending time purring in your lap, the affectionate Burmese likely won’t disappoint. The unique looking Persian can be described as affectionate, laid-back, sweet, and gentle. These quiet cats like being around people, so they will often sit nearby just to be in your company. Plus, these kitties are also playful, and they enjoy the attention that they get when they’re groomed. At the same time, a Persian cat might be a good choice if you don’t want a kitty that will constantly ask for your attention. And it’s worth noting that some of these cats might not feel comfortable being around new people, so be patient until they learn to trust you. (Photo credit: rukawajung/Shutterstock)

The adaptable, affectionate, loyal, and playful Birman will get along well with kids and other pets, and these kitties are fans of cuddling with their human family. They’re also known for not being shy around new people, and they enjoy being the center of attention. But these are smart, curious, and gentle cats that might also choose to bond with one person in the family, and they might be unhappy if they don’t get the affection they crave. So, this breed might not be a good choice if you tend to lead a busy lifestyle or would find it hard to devote enough attention to your feline companion. (Photo credit: Borkin Vadim/Shutterstock)

The Manx is unique because it doesn’t have a tail. Beyond its appearance, though, what makes this breed stand out is its love of socializing with people, its playfulness, and its talkative personality. These kitties prefer being in the company of their family, and they will trust you and be dedicated to you for good. Overall, when it comes to personality traits, these smart kitties tend to be adaptable, energetic, affectionate, and friendly even towards dogs and children. They do have high social needs, though, so this is yet another breed that might not be right for you if your lifestyle wouldn’t make it easy to give your companion the attention they crave daily. Gorgeous Ragdolls are big cats that are known for being affectionate, easygoing, and attention-seeking pets. They love being held, they are eager to please, and they will even let their body go limp while in your arms (hence, their name). These social cats are known for being active yet laid-back, as well as devoted and friendly enough to get along with people and other pets. These kitties have high social needs, they’re confident, and they’re so outgoing that they are usually friendly towards strangers too. Plus, they can get along well with dogs and kids. And they enjoy relaxing with you as much as they like playtime with you. The stunning Somali is basically a long-haired version of another friendly breed, the Abyssinian. These curious kitties are energetic, playful, attention-seeking, smart, and loads of fun. More importantly, they will get along with just about every person that they meet.
