Second Annual Shelter Showdown hosted by Pets Add Life to award $50,000 to animal shelters

From October 22 to November 19, 2014, Pets Add Life (PAL) will be hosting the Shelter Showdown Contest, which will award a total of $50,000 to three animal shelters. The showdown is for all shelters on www.petfinder.com, and will give $25,000 to the first place winner, $15,000 to the second and $10,000 to the third.

PAL is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote awareness of the rewards of owning pets. Established by the American Pet Products Association, PAL uses their website www.petsaddlife.org, and other forms of social media to spread their message.

“We are so thrilled to bring the Shelter Showdown contest back, and ultimately help more pets find loving homes,” said Bob Vetere, President and CEO of the American Pet Products Association. “It was rewarding to give away $25,000 to deserving shelters last year, and we couldn’t be happier to provide even more this year. I strongly encourage communities to rally, vote and help spread the word!”

Animal lovers and shelter supporters are able to vote once a day while the contest is open, starting October 22. Voting can be done by going to the PAL Facebook page and downloading the Shelter Showdown app, or by visiting www.sheltershowdown.com. Winners will be announced on November 19, during PAL’s National Get a Pal For Your Pet Day. The shelters with the most votes last year were Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary taking the top spot, with Golden Paw Society in Huntington, N.Y. placing second, and CATS Cradle Shelter in Fargo, N.D coming in third.

PAL has received much notoriety for their YouTube page; their talking animal videos have brought much laughter along with spreading the message about pet adoption. Their highest watched video, ‘ Dog Wants a Kitty,’ has had over 2.5 million views!

Be sure to check out the Shelter Showdown and vote for your favorite shelter each day!
